about us

Hold the Phone was founded in Spring 2025 by La Grange moms Liz Drouin and Jen Ulrich. Inspired by Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation, this community initiative aims to reclaim a play-based childhood by reducing the negative impacts of technology on children.

Our Impact & Vision

  • Proven Success: Following a successful partnership with District 102, our 2026 TechEducation Series reached all six schools, providing families with vital, research-backed resources.

  • Community Expansion: Building on this momentum, we are expanding across the western Chicago suburbs. We believe collective action makes the hard decisions easier—by banding together, we can shift the cultural norm.

  • Our Goal: To foster a healthier, intentional relationship with technology where children’s lives aren't spent buried in screens.

Join the Movement

  • For Caregivers: Whether your child has a device or not, join us to find a like-minded community that supports intentional parenting in a digital age.

  • For Partners: We are looking for community organizations and local leaders to help us scale our reach and protect the next generation.

FAQs

What is the purpose of HTP?

1

HTP encourages parents to pause before making decisions about technology—to hold the phone—and consider the research, weigh the pros and cons, and choose what is best for their own family, knowing that every situation is unique. HTP is a supportive community where parents can learn, discuss, and share ideas for raising healthy children in the digital age.

What is NOT the purpose of HTP?

2

HTP is NOT about banning all smart phones until a certain age or creating one-size-fits-all rules for technology use. There is no pledge to sign. It is not about shaming, judging, or excluding families based on their individual tech decisions.

Who is HTP open to?

3

HTP is open to all families, wherever they may be on their digital technology journey.

How do I join HTP?

4

HTP is not a club you join - there is no official membership list - but rather a movement of parents working together for the benefit of our kids. You can "join" (in other words "support") HTP by attending any of our events, or reading our newsletters or simply talking to your kids about the pros/cons of tech habits.

To receive communication directly from HTP, complete this quick form. Or follow us on Instagram.
